Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated / cold stones as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly. Pregnancy massage

Pregnancy massage can be a wonderful benefit to both the mum and unborn baby. It supports a mother both emotionally and physiologically during a time when there are a lot of changes going on in her body such as pressure on joints, ligaments and organs which can cause pain and discomfort. A relaxing massage using gentle and gliding strokes are used, the treatment tailored to suit each mother. No sports or deep tissue is used because your joints are quite loose and it could cause damage.
For your comfort, the best position is to be lying on your side on the couch with pillow’s supporting your head and under your tummy. It is the easiest way to massage the neck, back and shoulders. If you prefer, there is also the option of sitting in a chair and with the support of pillows leaning against a massage couch.
Massage shouldn’t take place until you are in your 2nd Trimester (13 weeks onwards) as during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy there is a greater natural risk of miscarriage during this time than at any other time of the pregnancy.
Please note that you require your Doctor or Midwife’s consent prior to the treatment. It will be necessary for you to sign a statement saying that you have received verbal consent by either your Doctor or midwife to go a head with a massage.
